Absences, Make-Up Lessons & Holding Fees
At Sherriffs Road Swimming Centre, we understand that illness, family commitments and unexpected events can sometimes prevent your child from attending their regular lesson. To support families while maintaining consistent class placements, we offer a make-up lesson system and flexible payment options.
WHY DOES A HOLDING FEE APPLY?
When your child is enrolled in an ongoing weekly lesson, their place in that class is reserved for them each week. Even if your child is absent, their place remains allocated and available for their return.
The holding fee is not a charge for the missed lesson. It helps cover the cost of reserving your child’s ongoing class position, managing class availability, administering make-up lessons and providing flexible weekly payment arrangements.

- If the holding fee is not paid by your child’s next scheduled lesson, we cannot continue to reserve their place in the class, and the enrolment position may be released.
- If a make-up lesson is booked and not attended, the make-up lesson opportunity will be considered used and cannot be rebooked or transferred.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
If I provide plenty of notice, why is a holding fee still charged?
Providing notice helps us manage attendance and make-up lesson availability. However, your child’s place remains reserved in their regular class and cannot be permanently allocated to another student.
What if another child attends the lesson as a make-up?
Your child’s class position remains reserved exclusively for them. A make-up swimmer does not replace your child’s enrolment position.
Do I lose the holding fee?
No. Holding fees are credited towards the cost of a make-up lesson when booked and attended.
What happens if I miss my booked make-up lesson?
When a make-up lesson is booked, a place is reserved specifically for your child. If the make-up lesson is not attended, the make-up lesson opportunity is considered used and cannot be rebooked or transferred to another date and the holding fee credit opportunity is forfeited.
What happens if I do not pay the holding fee?
The holding fee confirms that you wish to retain your child’s place in the class. If the holding fee is not paid by the following scheduled lesson, we cannot continue to reserve that position, and the class place may be released to another family.
